Adaptation | Adaptation Goals | 3.3 | Please describe the main goals of your city’s adaptation efforts and the metrics / KPIs for each goal. | 7 | Comment | 9 | In order to develop effective resilience measures within Hayward's industrial district, climate and flood risk must be broadly understood by stakeholders in the area. Providing technical support and education specifically to industrial businesses in the area may increase protection and reduce risk. Partnerships with HARD and EBRPD can increase technical support and education and may include awareness campaigns, community engagement, risk audits, risk modeling, and more. Hayward could partner with organizations like the Business Resiliency Initiative (BRI) to promote resiliency plans for industrial businesses along the shoreline. BRI is a project launched by Valley Vision and its partners to increase the resilience of our regional economy by increasing the preparedness of the business community, and particularly the small business community, in the region. Valley Vision is a civic leadership organization dedicated to improving the livability of the Sacramento region. Foundational funding support for the BRI is provided by the Sacramento Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD); the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD); and PG&E. BRI provides a toolkit that is designed with the small business in mind, and provides a concise, accessible, action-oriented, easy-to-use guide to creating a resiliency plan for your business.Partnerships, like this one, could provide resources for communities to more quickly recover from and more effectively prepare for future floods and climate risks. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05

We do this by planting 3000 trees every year.Increase urban forest diversity - The urban forest will be composed of no more than 5% of any tree species, no more than 10% of any genus and no more than 20% of any one family. We do this by planting new species including trialling new species that will be resilient to Melbourne’s future climate.Biodiversity – increase area of native understorey habitat in the public realm. We do this by protecting, enhancing, and creating habitat to support biodiversity and ecosystem health.Permeability - 20% minimum permeability for all subcatchments by 2030. We do this through increasing existing open spaces and traditional open space as part of urban renewal, installing permeable paving for public carparks and footpaths, and enforcement of policy requiring permeability across the private realm.Open space – Increase proportion of residents within 300m of public open spaceGreening: We deliver the following targets through programs like the Urban Forest Fund, demonstration projects and implementing planning controls.- Double the area of green roofs in the municipality from five hectares (2015) to ten hectares, as measured through comparative mapping of green roofs.- Double the number of vertical green installations from 50 (2016) to 100, as measured through planning scheme applications and Urban Forest Fund initiatives.Health and wellbeing – Decrease number of hospital admissions in relation to extreme weather events. We do this through programs and services that engage and prepare socially vulnerable residents and communities to enhance their resilience to hazards and disasters. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05
