In response to the change of areas prone to infectious diseases and increased contagiousness caused by extreme high temperature, Taipei City has been focusing on the prevention and control of dengue fever. In 2015, the City launched the “Capital Region Dengue Fever Prevention Plan”, which combined inter-departmental communication and cooperation between the governmental agencies such as health care, environmental protection, civil affairs, and education of the City Government to implement relevant prevention and response measures, in the aim to curb new infection cluster of dengue fever, and improve the environmental public health in our communities. 2. As of 2020, 98 hospitals have joined the "establishment of dengue fever epidemic prevention network as well as community clinic rapid screening and reporting" for early diagnosis and treatment of confirmed dengue cases. For the early monitoring of dengue vector mosquitoes, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is used for infectious disease prevention and control, as it can detect and collect vector mosquito density indexes in high-risk areas (such as empty houses, open spaces, and markets) in advance. The GIS is used to provide infectious disease information and geographic locations for disease prevention personnel, with measures by the Departments of Environmental Protection and of Civil Affairs to double prevention performance.3. In addition, a total of 284 epidemic preventive volunteers and campus leaders in 12 communities were recruited and trained, with improved dengue vector mosquito prevention and control advocacy in the community and campus campaigns to enhance the epidemic prevention knowledge of citizens, in order to ensure public health by promptly controlling the outbreaks or epidemics. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has been cleaning and disinfecting Taipei City for 456 villages every 2-3 months for the prevention and control of dengue vector mosquitoes, with thorough inspections to eliminate potential mosquito-breeding habitats. As of 2020, Taipei City conducted disinfection for 2,410 times, with total area of 29.93 million square meters, which include removing 3,748 water containers in the outdoor environment and 2,154 waste tires, coupled with 14,895 cases of environmental inspections, 181 advises, and 53 indictments.4. In order to improve the monitoring of vector mosquitoes, the DEP has established the City’s Mosquito-Borne Disease Monitoring Center in cooperation with the National Mosquito-Borne Diseases Control Research Center (NMDC) of the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) in 2020. Since April 2020, the DEP has been monitoring mosquito population in the residential areas and three villages near mountains areas. Since July, the surveillance programs on the density of vector mosquitoes has been conducted in commercial districts (Taipei Station and Nangang Station), and nearby farm residences. The impact of infectious diseases caused by extreme high temperature may be reduced by disease prevention, specific actions, and continuous monitoring and control.01/20/2022 02:27:05
