La majorité des participants est souvent illettrée.Tous les groupes de discussion ont montré que les populations riveraines subissent les effets des phénomènes météorologiques tels que les inondations, à plusieurs niveaux de vulnérabilité. Ils estiment que les eaux lagunaires polluées sont le lieu de multiplication de moustiques et de mouches et que ces eaux leur apportent diverses maladies comme le paludisme et le choléra. De mauvaises odeurs émanent des eaux lagunaires et gênent les populations.Les populations disent être victimes de la ville et du développement urbain et se sentent abandonnées à elles-mêmes. De nombreux déchets solides venants de la ville avec les eaux usées urbaines sont larguées sur les berges lagunaires par la lagune. On y trouve parfois des seringues et de nombreux autres déchets biomédicaux et ménagers.Des initiatives individuelles de nettoyage des berges lagunaires sont menées par certains ménages en face de leurs maisons respectives pour servir de lieux de repos familiaux. Certains jeunes aménagent d’autres endroits de berges lagunaires et les transforment en lieux de repos touristiques fréquentés par les populations venant de la ville les week-ends, moyennant de l’argent.En ce qui concerne les problèmes de santé, les populations ont rapporté que les maladies les plus récurrentes, liées à la pollution lagunaires sont le paludisme, les maladies diarrhéiques et les Infections Respiratoires Aiguës (IRA). De façon générale, les entretiens montrent qu’en cas de maladie, l’itinéraire thérapeutique est fonction du type, de l’intensité et de la durée de la maladie, mais aussi des moyens financiers et humains (réseau social) du malade ou des parents. Si la maladie commence par de légers maux de tête ou de la fièvre légère, le premier recours est généralement l’automédication quel que soit les moyens financiers. L’automédication peut se faire par achat de médicaments pharmaceutiques avec des vendeurs ambulants, dans la rue ou au marché, sur conseils ou non d’une tierce personne. Elle peut aussi consister à l’achat de médicaments en pharmacie, si le ou les médicaments en question sont vendus sans ordonnance médicale, sur conseils ou non d’une tierce personne. Elle peut enfin se faire par utilisation de plantes médicinales (herbes, feuilles, écorces et racines d’arbres,…) sur conseils ou non d’une tierce personne. Les propos ci-dessous présentent ces différentes situations.Les participants aux groupes de discussion se disent fragilisés par les phénomènes météorologiques tels que les inondations et leur attribuent des maladies comme les démangeaisons, certaines maladies diarrhéiques, le paludisme, la toux et l’angine. L’étude montre également certaines pratiques des populations vis-à-vis de la lagune. Ces pratiques augmentent leur vulnérabilité face à la pollution. Pour la gestion quotidienne de la pollution et des problèmes de santé sur les sites d'étude, certaines personnes ont initié des actions et développé des solutions qui augmentent leur résilience.01/20/2022 02:27:05
