305338Cities 2021202135475City of Calgary, ABCanadaNorth America6. OpportunitiesClimate Action Planning6.12Describe how your city plans to enhance ambition and scale up Climate Action Plan (integrated/adaptation/mitigation) and actions to achieve climate neutrality, net zero emissions, carbon neutrality or 100% renewables.00The framework in which Calgary operates is in transition due to actions by governments, communities and business to limit the increase in global temperatures and adapt to a changing climate. We follow the same threshold as IPCC's goal to limit the increase in global temperatures to well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit the rise to 1.5°C. Through this framework, The City of Calgary has been actively working on projects like zero carbon concrete in road repair and construction, working with local utilities on distributed energy systems and working on protection and valuation of natural infrastructure. These have been incorporated as part of the Calgary Climate Resilience Strategy, approved by Council in 2018. Furthermore, in 2012, City Council approved a motion to amend the Electricity Services Agreement (Retail) between The City and ENMAX Energy Corporation. This insured that 100% of the electricity purchased for City operations will come from renewable sources – including electricity used to operate The City’s CTrain, one of the busiest light rail transit systems in North America, with over 300,000 weekday riders (prior to COVID). ENMAX acquired two wind farms (Kettle Hills and Taber) to supply City operations with renewable energy. With this policy, The City is fulfilling a long-term goal of meeting its electricity needs through renewable energy sources and renewable energy certificates.01/20/2022 02:27:05

The information in this document was extracted from the Mitigation Plan itself in order to create a streamlined reference to the hazards identified in Guilford County and their associated risks. Through the mitigation planning process the Emergency Management Program was able to utilize the Hazard Mitigation Planning Team’s expertise to aid in the hazard identification and risk assessment. A comprehensive description of the hazard identification and risk assessment process as a part of the overall hazard mitigation planning process can be found in the 2020 Guilford County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, Section 2: Planning Process. The HIRA incorporates historical data using abroad range of sources to identify and evaluate hazards and their associated risks, and is designed to evaluate all hazard types to include natural, biological, technological, and manmade/intentional hazards.01/20/2022 02:27:05
