A very high focus on COVID-19 in this presidential challenge is likely to affect routine MCH preventive promotive services. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) of health dept and Anganwadi workers (AWWs) of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) are the backbone of preventive services. The present exploratory study (May-June 2020) was an initiative of Surat Municipal Corporation, UNICEF, and UHCRCE. The study objectives were a) To capture best practices, challenges, and gaps in basic health service delivery by community health workers during COVID 19 b) To understand adherence to the guidelines while delivering the services and gaps in the process. Systematic random sampling method was used to determine the sample and data were collected by conducting telephonic interviews of 104 ASHAs and 108 AWWs. The study tools contained quantitative as well as qualitative questions. Questions capturing the urban context were ensured in study tools. Statistical analysis was carried out for quantitative data while qualitative responses in terms of perceptions, opinions, and expectations of workers were thematically coded into categories, subcategories and were mapped to derive interpretations. Findings were disseminated to SMC and ICDS. The process for an academic research paper is in process and working papers have been drafted.01/20/2022 02:27:05
