Limita al norte con La Reina, por José Arrieta hasta las perdices, y luego por Talinay, al poniente con Ñuñoa y Macul, por Américo Vespucio, al sur con La Florida, por Departamental, y al Oriente con la provincia Cordillera. El punto medio de la comuna se ubica en los 33° 30’ de Latitud Sur y los 71°30’ de Longitud Oeste. La superficie total de la comuna de Peñalolén es de 54,9 [km2], y representa un 2,66% de la superficie de la provincia de Santiago, y un 0,35% de la superficie total regional (Municipalidad de Peñalolén, 2013), siendo la séptima comuna con mayor superficie dentro de la provincia de Santiago, y representa un 2,5% de la superficie de la provincia de Santiago. De su superficie, un 36% corresponde a área urbana. Geográficamente se encuentra ubicada al oriente de la Región Metropolitana, sobre terrenos que cubren desde la precordillera hacia la cuenca de Santiago. En términos geomorfológicos, al poniente, desde el límite hasta el canal San Carlos, se presenta una zona de conexión entre la cuenca de Santiago y los Conos Aluviales. En esta zona se presenta una pendiente suave. Luego, entre los 650 y 1000 msnm, se tiene una transición entre el fondo de la Cuenca de Santiago, o los Conos Aluviales, y la precordillera, que se denomina pie de monte. Esta unidad tiene una pendiente moderada, cuyo substrato está compuesto por sedimentos relativamente finos, que han sido arrastrados y depositados por las quebradas de Macul, Lo Hermida, Nido de Águila y Peñalolén, formando así los conos de Deyección antes mencionados. Finalmente, al oriente de la comuna se encuentra la Precordillera Andina, dominada por el macizo de San Ramón. Corresponde a una unidad montañosa, con una pendiente fuerte y superficie rocosa. Las quebradas que se presentan en este macizo presentan caudal en función de las precipitaciones o los deshielos. Como se mencionó anteriormente, se tienen principalmente cuatro quebradas: la Quebrada de Macul, de mayor importancia, cuya cuenca hidrográfica se delimita por la divisoria de aguas de los Cerros de San Ramón; y las Quebradas de Lo Hermida, Nido de Águila y Peñalolén, cuya prolongación hacia la cuenca de Santiago da origen a tres principales avenidas de la comuna: Grecia, José Arrieta y Talinay, respectivamente (Municipalidad de Peñalolén, 2007). Según datos obtenidos del Observatorio de la Municipalidad, y presentado en la ficha “Clima”, Peñalolén presenta un “tipo climático templado subhúmedo en transición al semiárido con precipitaciones de tipo mediterráneas. Estas se caracterizan por concentrar las precipitaciones en el período invernal en forma intensa y por poseer una estación seca estival prolongada de ocho meses. Las temperaturas son templadas (14,5ºC de promedio anual), siendo enero el mes más cálido con 21,3ºC, promedio; y julio el mes más frío con 7,9ºC, promedio. Por otra parte, las precipitaciones son cercanas a los 400 mm anuales, concentrándose en un 83% entre los meses de abril a septiembre. Hacia la Precordillera el clima presenta una mayor oscilación térmica diaria y anual y un aumento considerable de las precipitaciones, las que pueden superar los 800 mm sobre los 1.000 metros de altitud. La isohípsa de los 1.700 metros marca el límite de las precipitaciones sólidas, las que se concentran entre mayo y agosto.” (Municipalidad de Peñalolén, 2013)01/20/2022 02:27:05
