Reducing carbon emissions in our municipal operations will lead to better air quality which will lead to less extreme hot days. An example of implementing our 2030 SEAP goal is the electrification of our city fleet and large scale solar procurement, both of which improve air quality by reducing carbon emissions and other polluters. The City Council formally adopted a goal to increase the urban tree canopy to 50% by 2050. The City’s Comprehensive Plan contains goals that will reduce UHI effect by 2040Goal 1: All Charlotte households will have access to essential amenities, goods, and services within a comfortable, tree-shaded 10 minute walk, bike, or transit trip by 2040.Goal 6: All Charlotteans will live and work in safe and resilient neighborhoods that enable healthy and active lifestyles by reducing exposure to harmful environmental contaminants, expanding and improving the quality of tree canopy cover, encouraging investment in walking, cycling, and recreation facilities, and providing access to healthy food options and health care services.Goal 7: Charlotte will protect and enhance its surface water quality, tree canopy, and natural areas with a variety of trees, plantings, green infrastructure, green building practices, and open space at different scales throughout the entire community as a component of sustainable city infrastructure.Goal 9: Charlotte will retain the identity of existing neighborhoods by intentionally directing redevelopment, limiting displacement and cultivating community-driven placemaking that elevates the importance, quality and design of places. This includes an objective to preserve and improve the tree canopy. For Fiscal Year 2022, $1 million has been budgeted to purchase 22 EVs and $1.6 million for EVSE to support our growing EV fleet. | 01/19/2022 02:30:06 | |||
