12990Cities 202120212185Bristol City CouncilUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern IrelandEurope5. Emissions ReductionMitigation Target setting5.2aPlease identify and describe the conditional components of your city-wide emissions reduction target(s).00There are numerous conditionalities to our emissions reduction targets, but this is the same for all cities and provinces which lack autonomy and rely on national government for funding and national policy direction. Our city-wide emissions reduction targets are conditional to:The continuing decarbonisation of the national grid. This is key to achieving the UKs national emissions reduction targets and our city-wide target. Good progress is being made with low carbon electricity generation accounting for 54% of total generation in 2019.Reliance on national legislation, regulation, policy and change in planning legislation- We are taking steps to lobby and engage with national government and other major UK cities. We are calling for devolved power to cities support climate action. Although we cannot control national legislation in our emissions reduction, through Bristol's city leadership we can influence its development in a positive manner.Bristol is also reliant on the provision of national funding for renewable energy generation and energy efficiency measures. However, we have taken steps through projects such as the City Leap partnership to secure funding for moving towards carbon neutrality through other means available to the city.01/14/2022 02:32:38
