OpportunitiesOpportunities6.0Please indicate the opportunities your city has identified as a result of addressing climate change and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities.2Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity6(a) Electric Vehicles: The Government announced in March 2021 the first Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of EVs. The key measures include no new registration of fuel-propelled private cars in 2035 or earlier, proactively promoting trials for electric public transport and commercial vehicles, expanding the EV charging network and promoting its marketisation, training for EV professionals, formulating a Producer Responsibility Scheme for retired EV batteries, etc. Most major manufacturers of EVs have now introduced their products to the Hong Kong market, including Japanese, French, German, PRC, South Korean, Austrian, Belgian, Italian, Spanish and American. As at end 2020, there were more than 18 000 EVs on the road in Hong Kong. In addition, there were about 4 100 EV chargers in the city for public use as at end March 2021. The Government’s target is to have at least 5 000 public chargers provided by 2025, and plans to double the number in future. The charging infrastructure for EVs in existing private residential buildings will be expanded with the launching of about US$0.26 billion EV-Charging at Home Subsidy Scheme, and the Government’s target is to have at least 150 000 parking spaces in private residential and commercial buildings equipped with EV charging infrastructure before 2025. On the other hand, the Government is also planning to marketise the public EV charging services in government car parks by 2025 to promote their sustainable development in the long run. It is expected that more job opportunities will be created for professionals and technicians after the launching of the scheme and marketisation of charging services. (b) Electric and Hybrid Buses: The Government allocated about US$27 million for franchised bus companies to purchase 36 single-deck electric buses and 6 double-deck hybrid buses for trial. (c) Electric public light buses: The Government has earmarked about US$10 million to prepare for trial of electric public light buses and the associated charging facilities in 2020.(d) Electric taxis: The Government will provide funding support of about US$5 million via the New Energy Transport Fund for the trial of electric taxis.01/20/2022 02:27:05
