| 133575 | Cities 2021 | 2021 | 31167 | City of Lagos | Nigeria | Africa | 13. Waste | 13.0 | What is the annual solid waste generation in your city? | 3 | Please describe the methodology used to calculate the annual solid waste generation in your city | 1 | Please complete | Scope 1 emissionsThe main data available for solid waste management in Lagos was from a research done for LAWMA by students so a top-down solid waste model was developed using types and sizes of trucks. Estimates for volume of waste received at the dump site were derived as follows:Mammoth truck = 9 tons; Double Dino = 12 tons; Single Dino = 6 tons; Trailer = 30 tons; Skip Truck = 2.5 tons; Medical = 4 tonsCIRIS calculator was used to estimate emissions from solid waste volumes using a Methane Commitment methodologyWe also used Lagos total waste assumption of 0.64 kg solid waste/capita/day, multiplied by the population of 21million to calculate total municipal solid waste volume. We then subtracted the data on collected waste to get the uncollected portion of waste. Available information from LAWMA is that 10% of waste is informally recycled, so we allocated the remaining 90% of the waste to open dumping. Wastewater emissions, calculated using the built-in CIRIS calculator.Scope 3 emissionsLagos has no scope 3 emissions as all the landfills are located within the city, however waste generated outside the city and disposed in the city are captured under the Basic Sources. No landfill gas was recorded as collectedEmissions for wastewater were calculated using the CIRIS built-in calculator default valuesFurther data obtained from Lagos State Waste Management Office estimates open defecation at 15% and septic tank usage at 80%. | 01/20/2022 02:27:05 | |||
