The pilots will be key demonstrator projects with before /after social and technical monitoring in place for the duration of the pilots. Learnings will feed into the wider whole house retrofit approach.2) The Council is working alongside a number of partners on a proposal which will develop net zero carbon housing through greater use of offsite construction. This project will test a new housing delivery model, specifically a method of design, construction & delivery that is based on off-site construction and disrupts the traditional linear delivery model of housing design & construction. This project will demonstrate the effectiveness of homes designed to net zero carbon. We will use Modern Methods of Construction which uses technology, new materials and contemporary on-site building techniques. 3) In 2020 the Council approved an Enerphit pilot exercise to inform the approach to addressing the existing operational estate’s contribution to the Net Zero target. The proposal is to utilise available funding to execute a pilot on a small sample of buildings utilising the Passivhaus Enerphit standard. This will provide an understanding of the process and the benefits it can bring to an informed strategy. The aim is to ensure that all major works are informed by best practice4) An experimental ‘living lab’ raingarden was constructed in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). The RBGE uses it to manage flooding across the garden and to study what trees, shrubs, wildflowers are best suited for raingardens. It was a collaboration between the RGBE & Heriot Watt University.5) Edinburgh’s old centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many heritage buildings that are hard to heat and suffering from dampness and structural issues associated with our changing climate. The Canongate Housing Development Energy Efficiency and Conservation project aimed at improving energy efficiency of a mixed tenure tenement block of the post-war B-listed development designed in the late 60s and restore or repair its original features. This project involved 10 flats and 2 commercial units owners and residents, and helped develop an innovative and replicable delivery model for energy efficiency retrofit of domestic/non-domestic listed properties.01/20/2022 02:27:05
