Seu espaço territorial está inserido em uma poligonal entre os paralelos 7º15’00” e 7º22’30” de latitude sul e os meridianos de 34º45’00” e 34º52’00” de longitude oeste. Possui 24.670 (vinte e quatro mil seiscentos e setenta) habitantes, de acordo com estimativa do IBGE – Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística em 2019, em seus 172,950 km², resultando em uma densidade demográfica de 123,74 hab/km² (Leal, 2013), sendo 64% (sessenta e quatro por cento) de mulheres e 36% (trinta e seis por cento) de homens. Entretanto, não há dados mais recentes sobre as especificações da população, tendo que recorrer aos dados do IBGE de 2010, que apontou a população de 21.400 (vinte e um mil e quatrocentos). A extensão da orla do Município mede 17 km, desde a desembocadura do Rio Gramame ao Rio Graú. Sua emancipação política foi alcançada através da Lei nº 3.107 de 18 de novembro de 1963, instalando-se oficialmente em 28 de dezembro do mesmo ano, desmembrando-se da capital e formando um único distrito, o Sede, com o nome de Conde.O município apresenta, segundo a classificação de Koppen, clima do tipo As’, que é caracterizado por ser quente e úmido, com chuvas de outono e inverno e um período de estiagem entre a primavera e o verão. Os índices pluviométricos registram uma média entre 1800mm a 2100mm anuais, com temperatura anual média em torno de 20º a 25º e uma amplitude de 3º a 5º. Por estar em uma região costeira, as temperaturas são amenizadas pela influência das massas de ar, que se originam no oceano, como a Massa de Ar Equatorial Atlântica, a Frente Polar e os Ventos Alísios de Sudeste (Atlas Geográfico do Estado da Paraíba, 1985). É composto pelos seguintes distritos: Sede, Jacumã, Barra de Gramame, Gurugi, Ademário Régis e Pousada.São praias localizadas no Município: Barra de Gramame, Gramame, do Amor, Jacumã, Carapibus, Tabatinga - (inserida na APA Tambaba), Coqueirinho - (inserida na APA Tambaba), Praia do Surfista - (ou Praia da Arapuca – inserida na APA Tambaba) e Tambaba - (inserida na APA Tambaba).Há três Comunidades Quilombolas: Gurugi, Ipirange e Mituaçu.
