O ponto central da cidade possui altitude de 860 m. Betim está inserida integralmente na Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Paraopeba, que por sua vez compõe a Bacia Nacional do Rio São Francisco. O bioma característico da região é Mata Atlântica e Transição Cerrado. O Clima é classificado como subtropical úmido e a temperatura média é de 21.1°C. A Pluviosidade média anual é de 1369 mm. De acordo com o Censo IBGE, a população estimada para o ano de 2020 é de de 444.784 habitantes e o PIB per capita no ano de 2018 foi de R$ 58.911,58. O Município limita-se com Contagem, Esmeraldas, Igarapé, Ibirité, São Joaquim de Bicas, Mário Campos, Juatuba e Sarzedo.O histórico de ocupação industrial de porte significativo no município se deu em meados da década de 40, quando implantou-se as indústrias ceramistas Ikera e Safran, Siderúrgicas Vale do Paraopeba e Amaral. Na década de 50, inaugurou-se a BR 381 – Rodovia Fernão Dias (ano 1958). Na década de 60, implantou-se a Refinaria Gabriel Passos – Regap / Petrobrás (ano 1968). Na década de 70, instalou-se a Fiat Automóveis S.A. (ano 1976), juntamente com um grande número de empresas satélites de auto peças, resultando na formação do segundo pólo automobilístico do País e consolidando assim o pólo industrial da Cidade. Betim é um município eminentemente industrial, destacando-se nacionalmente por sua forte economia, devido à presença de grandes empresas, como a Fiat Automóveis e sua grande rede de fornecedores e a refinaria Gabriel Passos – Petrobrás. Desta forma, tornou-se o 4º maior PIB do Estado de Minas Gerais (ano base 2018, IBGE), conseqüentemente um dos centros urbanos mais dinâmicos do país, atraindo grandes investimentos e exercendo uma forte atração demográfica. Esse fato, aliado a diversos fatores de desenvolvimento, se traduz na evolução do orçamento municipal, que segundo a Secretaria Municipal de Finanças Planejamento e Gestão, cresceu do ano 2000 (R$262.863.000,00), para o ano de 2011 (R$1.390.000.000,00). Para o orçamento do exercício de 2021 de acordo com a lei municipal 6804/20 foi previsto o valor de R$ 2.096.936.000,00. Mesmo com o desenvolvimento econômico acelerado, proveniente dos setores industrial, de serviços e de comércio, a Cidade ainda conta com um percentual de 29% do seu território, correspondente à área rural, sendo desenvolvidas as atividades de agricultura, olericultura e pecuária de leite e corte.01/20/2022 02:27:05
