Alinhado com o acordo de Paris e o compromisso firmado pelos governos signatários do acordo para que a temperatura global fique abaixo de 1,5 graus Celsius, o Projeto Urban-LEDS: “Acelerando Ação Climática por meio da Promoção de Estratégias de Desenvolvimento de Baixas Emissões” tem por objetivo auxiliar as cidades a reduzir as emissões de gases de efeito estufa como medida de enfrentamento à mudança do clima, acelerando o desenvolvimento urbano de baixo carbono e resiliente a partir de uma abordagem de governança multinível para a ação climática. Oferecendo orientação, ferramentas e assistência técnica para que os governos locais atualizem inventário, desenvolvam o planejamento de ação climática e identifiquem riscos e vulnerabilidades correlatas a este tema. O Estudo de Riscos e Vulnerabilidade busca identificar quais os pontos mais ou menos suscetíveis aos impactos da mudança do clima de uma forma personalizada para a cidade, levando em consideração tanto aspectos físicos quanto sociais, além do histórico da região. Esse estudo permitirá elaborar estratégias para a mitigação e adaptação climática de Betim para os próximos anos. A cidade está recebendo orientação direta do ICLEI com apoio de uma consultoria. Esta atualização conta com a participação de atores estratégicos da cidade na elaboração do Estudo de Vulnerabilidade e Risco Climáticos. No dia 16/09/2020 ocorreu o 2º Workshop do Estudo de Vulnerabilidade e Risco Climático da cidade de Betim, que apresentou os dados coletados pela consultoria junto à Prefeitura para apreciação dos participantes do evento.
