According to climate models, the number of very hot days, which is defined as a day of 30°C or higher, is anticipated to increase from 9 annually in the recent past (1976-2005) to up to 43 a year (on average) in the near future (2051-2080). In addition to very hot days, the nights will be warmer as well. Tropical nights are defined as nights when the lowest temperature does not go below 20°C, and according to climate model predictions, this number will increase from 1 a year in the recent past, up to 15 per year (on average) in the near future (2051-2080). Heat wave events are defined as three or more consecutive days that are 32°C or higher. Currently this is rare in Selkirk, but it is likely going to become more frequent. This can have significant health implications on the public, especially the elderly and the disadvantaged – putting large strain on health services. The updated plan will include two sub-plans (Corporate and Community). The Corporate sub-plan is being developed internally with key agencies similar to the 2012 plan. The Community Plan is being completed with a Community Task Force that consists of representatives from University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board, Greater Essex County Public School Board, Windsor Regional Hospital, County of Essex, Windsor Port Authority, Walpole Island First Nations, Citizens Environment Alliance, Canada Red Cross, Union Gas, Essex County Field Naturalists and Windsor Essex Community Housing. In addition, representatives from the Windsor Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) and Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) also attend the Community Task Force meetings. These agencies have also been included in departmental meetings to better inform the Corporate Adaptation Plan. This Task Force is a dynamic working group and we continue to invite others as needed to fill identified representation gaps.In addition a number of pop-up community events have been completed in 2019 including at the Windsor Home and Garden Show, Earth Day Windsor-Essex, Little River Pollution Control Plant Open House and others to be determined. This dataset contains the full responses of publicly disclosing cities in 2021. The platform is still open and the dataset is updated daily to reflect new submissions.
