Please provide details on the boundary of your plan, and where this differs from your city’s boundary, please provide an explanation.13Description of the stakeholder engagement processes1The City of Medford held a stakeholder meeting in March 2018 as a part of our participation in Massachusetts' Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Grant Program. The central objectives of the meeting were to 1) define top local natural and climate-related hazards of concerns, 2) identify existing and future vulnerabilities and strengths, 3) develop prioritized actions for the City of Medford, and 4) identify opportunities to collaboratively advance actions to increase resilience. The City held a community meeting in June 2018 to solicit feedback on the content of the vulnerability assessment. In July 2019, the City held a visioning session between the Medford community members, city staff, and other stakeholders for the adaptation plan. People were divided into working groups to prioritize action areas and come up with suggestions regarding the proposed action items during the visioning session. The prioritized actions areas were: "Buildings & Energy", "Transportation", "Public Health", and "Ecosystems & Natural Environment". More focused working groups (consisting of city staff and Medford residents) were formed based on the above-mentioned prioritized action areas with 8-10 members each, and two sets of meetings were held to further prioritize and develop strategies for Medford to adapt to and mitigate climate change.The City held office hours throughout the Summer and Fall of 2019 to reach out to the larger community. During Fall 2019 and Spring 2020, the city conducted working group meetings to develop, refine, and prioritize strategies and specific action items for the above-mentioned prioritized action areas. An equity workshop was also held in April to make sure the strategies benefit all sections of the society. Due to the pandemic, community engagement efforts were transitioned to an online platform. The City hosted one in-person gathering with members of the Haitian community in Medford to discuss transport accessibility, language barriers, and challenges in accessing City resources. An outreach and community collaboration working group was convened in April 2021 to identify the appropriate channels to educate and raise awareness of climate planning and actions in the community. This working group was held remotely. These discussions are currently being integrated in the city's climate adaptation plan, which will be published later this year.01/20/2022 02:27:05
