In many parts of Canada, including Windsor, we often have days with clean air followed by heavy smog, and then a return to clean air. Hot sunny days in the summer may be accompanied by smog. The intense summer sun causes chemical reactions among the pollutants that are already in the air, leading to the formation of ground-level ozone, a major component of smog.In 2007, Windsor reported almost 40 smog days, this number has dropped considerably to 0 in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, the measurements for air quality changed in Ontario, with 1 Special Air Quality statement being issued in 2015 and 2016. The question that remains is, with increasing hot days and drier summers, whether this will produce more poor air quality days or will technology improvements (i.e. cleaner electrical system, EV vehicles, etc.) keep air quality in the area steady.Because of Windsor's past concerns regarding Air Quality, it continues to be a topic to monitor.01/20/2022 02:27:05

The Town of Vail also supports the transporation goals Climate Action plan for Eagle County which includes Reduce GHG emissions 10% below 2014 levels in the transportation and mobility sector by 2025. To achieve these targets the Town of Vail operates a free bus system year round and are has transitioned four of the seven in town buses to fully electric buses. Additional buses are hybrid diesel-electric buses. Town of Vail implemented an electric bike share pilot program for the community in the Summer of 2020 and is working with partners throughout Eagle County to develop a regional electric bike share program. In addition, Town of Vail as an internal e-bike share program, in which it has purchased 10 e-bikes for municipal staff to check out and utilize around town rather than driving personal or town vehicles. The Town of Vail also sponsors the county wide Sole Power Green Commuting Challenge, which incentivizes residents to used human powered forms of commuting such as walking, biking, skating, etc. to commute to and from work, social engagements, and while running errands. Since its inception in 2010 over 2,000 participants have logged 367,273 miles of human powered commuting. Town of Vail is also a designated Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community with 11 miles of paved bike paths and additional bicycle infrastructure on the roads through town. The Town is also working with the local Climate Action Collaborative to further a behavior change campaign encouraging residents to employ smart commuting (carpooling, bussing, walking, biking, etc. in place of a single occupancy vehcile) two times or more each week. The Town of Vail also has 24 level 2 EV charging ports and 4 Level 3 DC Fast EV Charging stations to improve upon the EV charging cooridor throughout Vail, Eagle County, and Colorado to improve the infrastructure and encourage more people to purchase electric vehicles. The Level 2 EV chargining stations are free to the public to utilize.01/20/2022 02:27:05
