Automated land-based charging stations with industrial robots handle the interconnection and maximize the charging period so that each ship's 640 batteries can be charged efficiently in a few minutes. The total battery power of 8,320 kWh for the two vessels corresponds to 10,7000 car batteries. The batteries are installed on top of the ferries together with two deckhouses with transformers, converters and cooling system. The electric ferries has been running since 2018. The municipality owned company Öresundskraft has been involved in the project by building a new transformer and preparing power cables. The numbers reported in this action belongs to the electrified ferries. In the port of Helsingborg other projects are also in progress to reduce climate emissions. Half of the port's energy consumption consists of diesel consumption in reachstackers, trucks and tractors. In 2020, the port's 25 passenger cars were replaced by electric cars. Four electric tractors will arrive in 2021. From 1 November 2020, the port use HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) i.e. fossil-free diesel for the operation of our tractors and reachstackers. The conversion to fossil-free machines and vehicles has reduced the port's emissions by 15 % (341 ton CO2e).Two of the projects in the port are:1. Smartest container port in the NordicsAround 75% of everything we buy is transported in shipping containers. And since Helsingborg is home to Sweden’s second largest container port, a huge portion of the entire country’s goods arrive and depart right here next to the heart of the city.We’re now making our port safer, quieter, cleaner, and more efficient with a project to replace the diesel-driven machines that move the containers around the port – self-driving electric pods. The pods operate in the closed port environment using advanced safety systems and sensors, including radar and cameras. They can be monitored and controlled from a distance, putting drivers out of harm’s way. And with no driver cab, the pods are much lighter than existing diesel-driven trucks.More importantly, they run on electricity, which improves life for everyone in and around the port as we greatly reduce CO2 emissions and noise levels while also increasing safety.The first pilot pod will be put to work in 2021 when the area layout is analysed and the route planning is complete.2. The road to a fossil-free society. Elonroad system Elonroad’s electric road system charges vehicles from a power strip in the road, whether they’re parked or on the move. As part of a project to test the system for the first time in a harbour environment, Elonroad is working with the Port of Helsingborg as a step towards electrifying the entire transport sector. The system not only electrifies roads, it’s also equipped with IoT sensors and software that collect and analyse transport data and can integrate with vehicles in real time. The digital platform allows several actors to share the charging infrastructure and use the energy in the most efficient way. Using clean energy from the sun, wind, and sea, and with more and more self-driving vehicles on the streets, the Elonroad system is aiming to drive the transition to accessible green mobility.
