There are entrenched views about the amount of rain we receive negating the need to conserve water. NPDC is installing water meters as a part of every new residential construction project with all large commercial/industrial water users already being metered. Water meters are likely to be used to determine water rates to be paid (i.e. user pays system) over the coming years. NPDC wants to decrease water use (which is above the national average) in conjunction with investing in infrastructure to increase potable water supply. NPDC has developed a Water Master Plan which identifies the issues, options and costs and ultimately it will be the community who decides whether they are willing to conserve more water and/or spend money on more potable water capacity.
