After determining if solar could be beneficial, the building owners would then contact local solar installers for a detailed quote. The goal of making this tool is to increase awareness of solar capacity in Peterborough and to accelerate the adoption of solar photovoltaic as an emission-free energy source to reduce the demand for grid electricity and its associated GHG emissions. The tool will be uploaded to the City's webpage over Summer 2021 with an anticipated launch in Fall 2021. If later combined with battery storage, rooftop solar can provide residents with electricity even when the local grid is shut down.As part of its suite of programs focusing on expanding solar in disadvantaged communities (DACs), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has created a community solar program for residents in DACs, the DAC-Green Tariff program. The program helps to provide discounts of up to 20 percent to low-income residents living in DACs. The program’s aim is also to allow low-income residents who do not own their home and thus do not qualify for the DAC-Single-family Affordable Solar Homes program to gain access to community solar. SJCE’s application to the CPUC to develop and administer a 1.73 MW Community solar site as part of this program was approved in March 2021 and SJCE aims to launch the program in San José in late 2021 or early 2022. SJCE estimates around 500-600 households could benefit from the program. SJCE partnered with Grid Alternatives to promote Disadvantaged Community Single-Family Affordable Solar Home (DAC-SASH), which provides free rooftop solar systems and installation to qualifying low-income property owners. In 2020, SJCE also promoted the CPUC’s Self-Generation Inventive Program battery storage funding opportunity to thousands of residential customers who qualify for free or reduced battery storage systems. Finally, in fall 2020 SJCE promoted Bay Area Sunshares’ group buy discounts on solar and battery storage systems (15% and 10%, respectively) to residential customers. These efforts will build on ongoing education of customers on rooftop solar and backup power sources through SJCE’s website.01/20/2022 02:27:05
