Desta forma, o município pretende apoiar a agricultura familiar e a pequena e média agricultura, não intensiva e sustentável. Ao promover os chamados circuitos curtos de distribuição alimentar, esta iniciativa permite também diminuir a pegada ecológica alimentar;- A iniciativa "Km0" pretende dinamizar a produção local de produtos agroalimentares através do seu consumo em estabelecimentos de restauração e lojas de venda de produtos alimentares, assegurando que as atividades de transformação e venda ao consumidor final são realizadas num raio de 50Km do seu local de origem. Enquanto parceiro desta iniciativa, o município de Évora pretende:i) Promover a economia local ao estimular a circulação económica dentro da comunidade;ii) Estimular a produção familiar local e aumentar o consumo de produtos alimentares produzidos localmente, ao longo das estações e reveladores do carácter da região;iii) Fomentar a diminuição da pegada ecológica alimentar, reduzindo a emissão de gases com efeito de estufa através da redução da energia necessária para que os produtos alimentares cheguem do produtor ao consumidor; iv) Contribuir para a soberania alimentar mantendo o saber fazer e a capacidade de produção local e diminuindo o grau de dependência alimentar externa;v) Contribuir para preservar as variedades locais e regionais e a biodiversidade associada aos sistemas agrícolas;- A iniciativa "Mercadinho de Produtores Locais Eborenses para a Comunidade Escolar", organizada pelas juntas de freguesia e apoiada pelo município, pretende com a realização de mercadinhos de produtores locais junto às escolas, mas abertos a toda a comunidade incentivar os hortelãos a continuar a produzir produtos de qualidade. A opção por circuitos curtos contribui também para apoiar a economia local e promover, através da redução de emissão de gases com o transporte e o recurso a técnicas tradicionais da agricultura, a defesa do ambiente e do planeta.
