640201972970GotlandSweden5. StrategyEnergy5.6Does your region have an energy efficiency target in place at the region-wide level and/or your government operations?00YesEnergy-related CO2eq emission from fossil fuels for transportation and heating (excl. heating and processes in ETS industries) was reduced by 45 % between 1990 and 2017, due to the transition of the technology for heating buildings, according to national statistics. Oil has been largely replaced by biomass, especially in district heating. Local forestry plus development of the technology for biomass heating has resulted in local biomass covering most of the heating fuel used for buildings . In smaller buildings the switchover to geothermal heating or heat pumps also contributes to reduced dependency on oil and electricity for heating. Technical development has led to improved energy efficiency, but the average heated building area and the transportvolume per inhabitant on Gotland are increasing. Taking other sources for climate impact into account as farmbased land use and emissions from livestock, the emissions of CO2-eq in business and society on Gotland were reduced by 28 %.2020-05-01T04:17:07.533
