This dataset contains 2023 data on cities climate hazards. All data included in the dataset is self reported by cities through the 2023 Cities Questionnaire. Please note that the reporting platform remains open for submissions until the end of the year and the dataset is updated daily to reflect new submissions. State and regional government climate data is fundamental to delivering the Paris Agreement. Using the data that states and regions disclosed to CDP, we estimate that those that disclosed both a region-wide GHG emissions reduction target and a GHG inventory, are on course to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement by 2020.
We incorporated the 2017 International Energy Agency scenarios to explore how collective emissions of states and regions change over time. This shows that disclosing states and regions are on average setting more ambitious targets than those set by their national counterparts. This demonstrates that present 2020 targets are sufficient to put states and regions on a trajectory for a 2 degree Celsius world. However, their long-term targets while more ambitious than their national counterparts, are not sufficient to keep the world below a 2 degree rise after 2020.

Catalog of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in cities, as reported by city governments participating in CDP in 2015. Activities are tagged by sector and cities provide detailed descriptions of each activity. Some cities also provide estimates of the total anticipated lifetime emissions that will be reduced from each activity.

In 2016, cities reported over 2,000 climate hazards that are impacting their cities. Globally, cities are reporting that health and community will be most impacted by climate change.

List of the economic opportunities arising from climate change, as assessed by city governments. Contains a description of how the city government is seeking to maximize the opportunities.

In 2015, 120 cities publicly reported annual city-wide emissions. This map includes information about how cities measured emissions (primary protocol), as well as why emissions rose/fell since prior reporting period.

CDP’s forests program targets the largest companies globally, collecting data on their management of deforestation risk through the lens of key agricultural drivers of deforestation (timber, palm oil, soy, cattle products & biofuels). In 2015, 700 companies are requested to respond to the program. The request is issued on behalf of 298 investor signatories with $19 trillion in assets.

Dataset of risk data from respondents to CDP’s forests program in 2013 and 2014. Includes data on company risk assessment processes, as well as the reputational, regulatory and operational risks they identified. This dataset excludes private responders.

Please note that not all companies report on all forest risk commodities. This may be due to the company submitting a partial disclosure or because only a limited number of the commodities are relevant to their business.
