It is also part of a group of cities called “Comarca Lagunera” together, they form the biggest nucleus for dairy and poultry production industry in México. According to the national institute for statistics and geography (INEGI), by the year 2015, Torreón had a total population of 679,288. Torreón has long struggle with water scarcity and hydroarsenisism along with air quality issues. This had been addressed since 2010, by water management policies, constant air monitoring, tight environmental control to foundry, cement and mining industry, all this together with a massive and permanent program of reforestation with native species of trees since 2017, has since improved Torreón´s public health and environment.
