El DC incluye la capital del país, Tegucigalpa y Comayagüela, considerada su ciudad gemela y en la practica visualizada como parte de ella. El DC es la región con la mayor población de Honduras porque incluye la capital del país, es donde se desarrollan la mayoría de actividades políticas y gubernamentales, limita al Norte con la municipalidad de Cedros y Talanga, al sur con el municipio de Santa Ana, San Buenaventura y Maraita, al Este con la municipalidad de San Juan de Flores, Valle de Ángeles, Santa Lucia, San Antonio de Oriente y Tatumbla y al Oeste con la municipalidad de Villa de San Antonio, Lamaní, Lepaterique y Ojojona.Las características climáticas según el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional de Honduras y tomando como referencia la estación Telemétrica en el Aeropuerto Toncontín, que opera continuamente desde 1951 hasta la fecha, la precipitación media histórica anual es de 896.51 mm y en los meses de mayo a octubre se dan el 88 % de la precipitación y durante el periodo de Julio se reporta un corte de la precipitación, en febrero se reporta como la menor precipitación de todas que asciende a 4.2 mm. En referencia a la temperatura media histórica anual es de 22.3°C, siendo el mes más caliente mayo, de acuerdo a la estación. En lo que se refiere a la humedad relativa histórica anual es de 71.8%.Las características demográficas (cantidad de residentes y población flotante): total de Población (Proyección de INE 2013) 1,059,546 residentes, en zona urbana (Proyección de INE 2013) 971,433 residentes, zona rural (Proyección de INE 2013) 88,113 residentes y el porcentaje de crecimiento anual es 2.36 % en total.
