The source is the joint statistics of Statistics Finland and Traficom (https://www.traficom.fi/fi/tilastot/ajoneuvokannan-tilastot?toggle=Ajoneuvojen%20tietoja%20haltijan%20kotikunnan%20mukaan). The same source has been used to calculate the number of electric cars and plug in hybrids. The municipal fleet includes cars, vans, trucks, off-road vehicles and special vehicles.Unfortunately we were unable to find statistics about the Uber fleet size in Espoo. Also the information about taxis was no longer available for the city for free. This is why the numbers are from the year 2019.The number of buses is the sum of buses that operate in the internal passenger traffic of Espoo.

The program has identified public procurement and public food and catering services to have a key role in improving the sustainability of the food system. Serving vegetarian meals is a mandatory issue at the catering-contracts of the City of Espoo. Schools, child-daycare -centers, staff-restaurants have a vegetarian meal as an alternative every day. Espoo also prefers using seasonal products and ingredients produced by local farmers when ever possible. Currently, 60% of the main dishes in schools and kindergartens are vegetarian and a vegetarian day is once a week. The city aims to increase the share of plant based and domestic products and fish in the menus. In particular the share of red meat will be reduced in the meals. 13178354409City of EspooFinlandEurope12.4How does your city increase access to sustainable foods?2Please provide details and/or links to more information about the actions your city is taking to increase access to sustainable foods6Do you have programs/policies/regulations on food surplus - either food surplus recovery and redistribution, or food waste avoidance programs (i.e. Love Food/Hate Waste)? One of Espoo's aims is to decrease the food loss every year by developing new practices. Espoo has designed new forms of food aid with different organizations, social- and employment services as well as representatives of the diaconal work . Ways are being sought in co-operation with other cities and the Deaconess Institute of Helsinki. Close co-operation has been established with food aid during the exceptional COVID-19 period and as a result the remaining school lunch packages have been re-distributed to the residents in need. Espoo Catering is a city owned food service company that provides food for school children, children in day care, customers of nursing homes and senior services, as well as city staff. Espoo Catering aims to minimize food loss by measures in kitchen and customer cooperation. Espoo Catering has acquired bio scales for school kitchens to give diners immediate feedback on the amount of food left over on their plate. In 2020 Espoo Catering started a cooperation with ResQ Club Oy which provides an application of surplus food purchase. Espoo Catering also donated the pandemic preparedness related surplus foods to the Salvation Army and Manna-Apu, that delivered the food for the ones in need. In addition, they continued to work with OneWay Mission with the regular donations of leftover food. New operating models will be piloted for lunch surplus food as soon as the corona situation makes it possible. In September 2020, Espoo Catering also participated in a nationwide food surplus campaign week. Espoo catering managed to reduce food waste in 2020 a total of -3.4% compared to 2019. Espoo is piloting ways to reduce food waste from food stores as well. In 2020 a waste food day was held K-Market Kilo. The efforts to reduce waste were discussed, customers received tips on tackling their own food waste, and a guide on food waste for households was be handed out. In the experiment about to be launched, the City of Espoo and Tyrsky-Konsultointi Oy will pilot the Waste Hero waste expert service, where food waste generated in groceries is combated by systematic review of operating methods and new, innovative operating models. The primary objective of the experiment is to prevent waste before it is generated and to optimize the use of raw materials at risk of becoming waste by further processing them into new products, for instance. The Waste Hero service collects all possible ways for retailers to reduce waste, from which individual retailers select the operating models appropriate for their own store. The experiment is part of the 6Aika KIEPPI project, which aims to promote the circular economy and solutions based on the circular economy in Espoo, Tampere and Turku.
