13476144185Suwon CityRepublic of KoreaEast Asia2. Climate Hazards and Vulnerability2.1Please list the most significant climate hazards faced by your city and indicate the probability and consequence of these hazards, as well as the expected future change in frequency and intensity. Please also select the most relevant assets or services that are affected by the climate hazard and provide a description of the impact.12Please describe the impacts experienced so far, and how you expect the hazard to impact in the future1Increases in summer building energy use due to heat will increase greenhouse gas emissions. Heatwaves increase health risks to vulnerable populations. The increase in water usage due to the heat wave is expected to cause a disruption in water supply, and it is highly likely to be exposed to waterborne diseases due to high water temperatures.
13476244185Suwon CityRepublic of KoreaEast Asia2. Climate Hazards and Vulnerability2.1Please list the most significant climate hazards faced by your city and indicate the probability and consequence of these hazards, as well as the expected future change in frequency and intensity. Please also select the most relevant assets or services that are affected by the climate hazard and provide a description of the impact.12Please describe the impacts experienced so far, and how you expect the hazard to impact in the future2The increase in building energy use in winter due to cold weather will increase greenhouse gas emissions. Cold waves increase the health risks of people with poor health and low-income people with poor living conditions. In particular, the elderly are at greater risk of developing cardiovascular diseases if they are exposed to rapid temperature changes.
13476344185Suwon CityRepublic of KoreaEast Asia2. 13476644185Suwon CityRepublic of KoreaEast Asia2. Climate Hazards and Vulnerability2.2Please identify and describe the factors that most greatly affect your city’s ability to adapt to climate change and indicate how those factors either support or challenge this ability.4Please describe how the factor supports or challenges the adaptive capacity of your city1In order to minimize health damage caused by heat waves, we provide heat-storm shelters and provide medical support to vulnerable groups. We provide convenience to citizens by installing heated chairs at bus stops, and are implementing special protection measures for the homeless who are vulnerable to cold waves. We will improve the adaptation environment by reducing the energy cost burden through the installation of solar power for social welfare facilities and the improvement project of energy efficiency of low-income housing. In order to minimize health damage caused by particular matter, air purifiers are provided to welfare facilities and masks are distributed to vulnerable groups. Air pollution warning system for particular matter, dust storm, ozone, etc. will help citizens to prepare themselves for damage.

13478544185Suwon CityRepublic of KoreaEast Asia2. Climate Hazards and Vulnerability2.3aPlease report on how climate change impacts health outcomes and health services in your city.7Please explain1According to the survey results of actual citizens, civil servants and experts, the area of climate change adaptation that is considered to be the most necessary in Suwon is the health field. In particular, we are establishing an integrated database for vulnerable groups such as the elderly living alone, the homeless, and the disabled, focusing on health centers, and promoting the protection of vulnerable measures. In addition, health policy is strengthened through regular monitoring through direct visits and telephone management, and education on preventing heat waves.
