Emissions Reduction5.4Describe the anticipated outcomes of the most impactful mitigation actions your city is currently undertaking; the total cost of the action and how much is being funded by the local government.22Aim of the engagement activities2In Bristol, the project aims to: improve quality of life in 3 wards of Ashley, Easton & Lawrence Hill to understand how technology can help tackle some of the major challenges our cities face. Such as air quality, traffic congestion and create more comfortable living conditions while reducing energy consumption for the future. Both project partners; Knowle West Media Centre and Bristol City Council as well as the stakeholder Bristol Energy Network have led all the project’s engagement activities. •Local organisations (such as Bristol Energy Network and Bristol Black Carers) have been recruited to provide a strong community focus; we have recruited local champions and held events to engage residents. •A residential demand side response trial will explore how households could use appliances at times which are beneficial in terms of pricing and the smart grid.•Engagement with citizens to co-create sensors to measure temperature, humidity, NO2 and particulate matter in order to get data which can be used to improve the life quality in Bristol.

Examples include: Retrofit of buildings to improve energy efficiency and also prevent overheating, tackling fuel poverty, improving health and educational attainment, smart electricity solutions to increase efficiency and improve grid resilience, collaboration across infrastructure network to provide carbon neutral and climate resilient systems.

The action plan also explicitly puts a focus on lobbying central government which is of vital importance in facilitating some of the actions within the one city climate strategy such as achieving the level of ambition on deployment of heat pumps and retrofitting existing housing stock. Each of the actions within the four themes of the action plan are aligned to one of the United Nations sustainable development goals.

This included co-creation workshops. We also invited wide range of, mainly civil society stakeholders, to contribute content to the strategy. The subsequent Delivery Plans for specific themes will include significant stakeholder engagement and consultation.Examples of stakeholder engagement include:•Bristol Green Capital Partnership Gathering, presentations on the subject matter and then table discussions with special recording templates to help guide people’s contributions into the final report c.200 people. Demonstrable change to Strategy document as a result.•One City Gathering Workshop, table discussions with special recording templates to help guide people’s contributions into the final report. c. 50 people•24 Hours of Climate Reality presentation was followed by an extensive workshop looking at the emerging issues in the One City Climate Strategy c.100 people•Climate & Migration event c 70 people, looking at the One City Climate Strategy in the light of refugees, asylum seekers and migration.•Informal conversations with neighbourhood groups including Lawrence Weston, Hartcliffe and Bedminster Down, taking the notes from those into the pool of commentary to inform the Strategy document
