The assessment observed a steady decrease in canopy cover (7% decline between 2004 to 2012) , which equates to a loss of about 54,000 trees per year. If the trend continues, Louisville is projected to have less than 25% tree canopy cover by 2055. Louisville Metro Government will work closely with community partners to meet and maintain the tree canopy goal.

These values were then multiplied by the pollutant’s GWP to give total CO2e emissions in metric tons (tonnes). Fugitive GHG emissions from coal piles were estimated by deriving the total area of the piles, estimating the weight of the piles (in tons) and then applying a GHG emissions factor.
