There are currently 42 vegetable gardens in operation, 18 of which are within Municipal Schools and providing food for children's meals. The Education Department has the “Horta Escolar” Project, with the implementation and maintenance of vegetable gardens in municipal schools and with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of the Environment, healthy eating, agricultural production associated with interdisciplinarity, consumption, disposal and reuse of food. The Program already has 250 School Gardens. In the city, there is also the initiative of an Organic Fair Circuit in several neighborhoods of the city, supported by the City Hall with exemption from taxes, facilitating the sale of production to small producers and easier access for consumers to organic food. https://mail.camara.rj.gov.br/APL/Legislativos/contlei.nsf/50ad008247b8f030032579ea0073d588/086abed4e4f93d438325830b006fc9f8?OpenDocumenthttp://smaonline.rio.rj.gov.br/ConLegis/ato.asp?54050http://www.rio.rj.gov.br/web/sme/exibeconteudo?id=9560555https://www.rio.rj.gov.br/web/smac/hortas-cariocas

The Program consists of collecting from industries, industrial kitchens, restaurants, markets, fairs, grocery stores or the like, industrialized food or not, prepared or not, which, for any reason, have lost their marketing status without, however, having been changed properties that guarantee full and safe conditions for human consumption, according to the competent municipal body. 11976731176Prefeitura do Rio de JaneiroBrazilLatin America13.0What is the annual solid waste generation in your city?3Please describe the methodology used to calculate the annual solid waste generation in your city1Please completeThe responsible company can't stating exactly how much garbage is generated, since there are garbage generators that are responsible for ensuring the final destination of the garbage and that do not pass through transfer stations, as well as there are pickers that collect the reciclable garbage before the company collects. Therefore, the number here is an estimation considering: the total collected, the total delivery in the landfill and the small fraction that is incinerated. We know there is a lack of data on part of the hospital waste, part of the commercial and some ndustrial waste.
