Adaptation3.0Please describe the main actions you are taking to reduce the risk to, and vulnerability of, your city’s infrastructure, services, citizens, and businesses from climate change as identified in the Climate Hazards section.8Action description and implementation progress1The goal with our forestry plan is to manage the forest in such a way that all forestry measures are adapted to the existing environment. Skövde municipality's own forest is FSC®-certified according to FSC-C006219 and is managed according to a so-called Green Forestry Plan. Being certified means that you conduct sustainable forestry, taking into account the natural environment, to those who work in the forestry sector and to ethical and social values. To guard against severe wind and bark borer our forestry plan focus on biodiversity. We plant different kinds of trees as we have seen that fir, which has been heavely planted in the past, is worse att handling a warmer climate than other kinds of trees. Also fir is not as good at withstanding severe wind as oke or pine, which makes a more biodiverse forest more resistant against severe wind. The forestry plan is about to be revised the coming year to better reflect how the forests of Skövde should be managed forward.

Adaptation3.0Please describe the main actions you are taking to reduce the risk to, and vulnerability of, your city’s infrastructure, services, citizens, and businesses from climate change as identified in the Climate Hazards section.8Action description and implementation progress2The purpose of the thermal mapping is to map how radiant heat varies within the Skövde urban area with the support of the radiation model SOLWEIG. The model describes how the radiant heat varies in the built environment, with regard to topography, buildings and vegetation. Maps for two cases have been produced. One based on historical data from the hot summer of 2014 and one with a scenario with 2 degrees warmer temperature. The heat mapping is currently used as a basis in the community building process, it has, for example, been used as a basis for the development of a new comprehensive plan, various new detailed development plans and as a basis for Skövde's risk and vulnerability analysis. The heat mapping is mainly used in early discussions involving green areas and when assessing where additional shade may be needed. An example of this is that the thearmal mapping has been used in the planning of risk areas such as preschools and nursing homes. In addition, a project is underway together with the organization Fastighetsägarna where the purpose is to use, among other things, the thermal mapping to make a risk assessment of existing property holdings that exist around the municipality.

Adaptation3.0Please describe the main actions you are taking to reduce the risk to, and vulnerability of, your city’s infrastructure, services, citizens, and businesses from climate change as identified in the Climate Hazards section.8Action description and implementation progress3Information to the public about how to preserve drinking water during drought. The information is now public on the municipality website. The municipality have also done a situation study over the water availability for the summer of 2019.Information linked to drought is available online on the municipality's website and is continuously updated as new information needs to be added. Linked to the information, the municipality also provides a tap where municipal residents can fetch water in the event of a drought. This tap is connected to municipal water and there is currently no risk that the municipal water supply would run out.

Adaptation3.0Please describe the main actions you are taking to reduce the risk to, and vulnerability of, your city’s infrastructure, services, citizens, and businesses from climate change as identified in the Climate Hazards section.8Action description and implementation progress4Flood mapping is used to locate which areas are at risk of flooding in the case of heavy rainfall. The flood mapping only includes Skövde urban area and not the smaller communitys inte the municipality. The flood mapping was completed in 2018 and is now under revision yet again. The revision is expected to be finished in August 2021. The flood mapping is mainly used for community planning, with the purpos to find risks linked to flooding. Based on the risk assessment made in the flood mapping, the municipality has begun to develop possible measures to prevent the consequences of heavy downpour, with flash flood as a conseqvens. Among other things, water dams and various types of infiltration systems are being built to counteract damage to buildings and infrastructure. In addition, a project is underway together with the organization Fastighetsägarna where the purpose is to use, among other things, the flood mapping to make a risk assessment of existing property holdings that exist around the municipality.

Adaptation3.0Please describe the main actions you are taking to reduce the risk to, and vulnerability of, your city’s infrastructure, services, citizens, and businesses from climate change as identified in the Climate Hazards section.8Action description and implementation progress5Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency has developed an updated flood mapping along the way river Tidan for the stretch from Stråken to the outlet in Vänern. The mapping can be used for input planning of the rescue service's work and as a basis for the municipality's risk management and community planning. The final product is maps with flood zones at 100-year flow, 200-annual flow and estimated maximum flow (BHF). The 100-year flow and 200-year flow have adapted to expected flows in 2098.The municipality works together with Tidans water council. This cooperation works to implement measures to reduce the risk of river flooding. One example of this cooperation is the inflows to and from the river are cleared yearly.

Adaptation3.0Please describe the main actions you are taking to reduce the risk to, and vulnerability of, your city’s infrastructure, services, citizens, and businesses from climate change as identified in the Climate Hazards section.8Action description and implementation progress6The Swedish geological institute has compiled risk areas in a web-based map service where completed landslide mapping and known landslides have been documented. The number of occasions where the conditions for landslides may occur may increase in the future due to milder and wetter winters. The tool is used to point out risk areas linked to landslide. In community planning, the tool is used to assess whether the municipality needs to conduct its own geological surveys.
