The green areas of the city correspond to a total of 10,914,985 m² in 22 urban communes, giving an average of 5.33 m² per capita.Cali is also known for its ethnic and cultural diversity. It has been named the best salsa singers in the world as "The World Capital of Salsa" because despite being of Cuban, or Puerto Rico, is in Cali, where it has become more popular. It has one of the economies and infrastructure in the country's fastest growing, due to its geographical location, the city is just 115 km from the Pacific Ocean. Cali is one of the main economic and industrial centres of the country besides being the principal, urban Culture agriculture, economic, industrial and southwestern Colombia.It is also one of the leading sports Colombia. It was the only Colombian city to organize the Panamerican’s Games, seven World Stops Track Cycling World Championships skating, and the ninth edition of the World Games 2013; this was the first time a Latin American city was to host of the games. Also was host the World Youth Athletics Championship. Cali was the capital of Track Cycling World Cup that has place in the Alcides Nieto Patiño Velodrome on February 17-19/2017. Cali was nominated as a finalist in the City Challenge of the Earth Hour organized by the WWF since 2014, seeks to recognize the efforts of cities to cope with the challenges imposed for environmentally sustainable city. The city participated in the campaign We Love Cali where citizens sought to recognize the reasons why they love Cali and demonstrate that by voting for the city. Cali won second place in this competition, with more than 17000 votes by citizens, the last year and this year is in the race of this competition. Finally, in matter of sustainability the city has been recognized by the Environmental Ministry of Colombia like a leader city for the Organizational Carbon Neutral Seal that has been implemented by more than 50 diverse companies with the help of the environmental authority of the city, DAGMA.
