The bridge would improve the health and well-being of local communities and visitors, overcoming the severance effect of the River Thames. It would reduce the relative isolation of Ham and encourage greater levels of physical and economic activity. It would reduce travel times and bring more homes and jobs into reach. It would reduce local dependency on motor vehicles in an area that currently has high dependency, enabling a sustainable recovery and contributing to cleaner air. It would provide an exemplar environment for walking and cycling and not suffer from the traffic and amenity problems common to current river crossings. In a recent consultation, 82% of respondents indicated support for a new bridge, and 94% of these favoured the location between Twickenham-Ham.
