The northern and western part of Bontang City has direct border with Kutai Timur Regency, in the eastern part with the Makassar Straits, and in the southern part with Kutai Kartanegara Regency.Bontang City lies in the equator’s region and have tropical climate, so that influenced by two seasons, there is dry season and wet season. It is also influenced by muson’s wind; the west muson on November–April and the east muson on May–October.In 2017 Bontang City has a population of approximately 170,611 persons. Number of residents in Bontang Selatan Subdistrict are 66,794 persons (39.15%), while in Bontang Utara Subdistrict are 68,813 persons (40.33%), and in Bontang Barat Subdistricts are 35,004 persons (20.52%). However, population density in Bontang Utara Subdistrict is the highest among the three Subdistricts. Population density during the year 2017 in Bontang Selatan Subdistrict, Bontang Utara, and Bontang Barat Subdistrict successively is 598-599 person/sq.km, 2,128 - 2,129 person/sq.km, and 1,951 - 1,952 person/sq.km.Bontang City’s economic in 2017 is dominated by manufacturing It is shown by 83,95% of total Gross Regional Domestic Product Bontang City (58.79 billion rupiahs) is donated by this Industry.From aggregate perspective (including oil and gas sector), BontangMunicipality’s economic growth rate in 2017 is inclining to 0.68%. Thiscondition is caused by the increasing of production in some sectors. Mainly in mining and quarring which is increase to 11,69%. The same condition is occurred in some Industries such as agriculture, and accommodation and food service activities, etc.Bontang Municipality’s economic growth rate in 2017 (without oil and gas sector) is growing positively to 1.36%. Although the growth rate of other industry has been decreasing, a positive growth rate by services sectors l ead to overall growth rate. So, the economic growth rate in Bontang Municipality is positive.
