If so, please describe the expected outcome of the policy.2Please describe the expected outcome of the policy1Please completeGood Food and Catering Procurement Policy 2018 - supports improvements to the nutritional value and sustainability of food provided in Bristol’s public buildings, its facilities, on its land and via its providers - supporting a reduction in the rise of excess weight in children and adults and a reduction in the environmental impact of food and catering. It also supports national guidance from Public Health England (2017) aiming for every public sector setting, from leisure centres and hospitals, to public open spaces, to have a food environment designed so that the easy choices are also the healthy ones. In March 2021 BCC adopted an Advertising and Sponsorship Policy which includes a ban on advertising HFSS (High in Fat, Salt and Sugar) food in an effort to address Public Health issues, making Bristol the first city in the UK outside London to take action on advertising junk food.In Bristol’s Adopted Local Plan, Policy DM10 ‘Food and Drink Uses and the Evening Economy’ supports a healthy food environment: “Takeaways in close proximity to schools and youth facilities will not be permitted where they would be likely to influence behaviour harmful to health or the promotion of healthy lifestyles.” Bristol has also demonstrated its leadership and commitment to sustainable food by achieving the Sustainable Food Places Gold award in June 2021.
