16850654608Alcaldia de MonteríaColombiaLatin America2. Climate Hazards and Vulnerability2.1Please list the most significant climate hazards faced by your city and indicate the probability and consequence of these hazards, as well as the expected future change in frequency and intensity. Please also select the most relevant assets or services that are affected by the climate hazard and provide a description of the impact.12Please describe the impacts experienced so far, and how you expect the hazard to impact in the future1Approximately 60% of the treatment plants are exposed to the return periods of 25 years, 50 years and 100 years, as well as the extreme event. With respect to water and sanitation services, approximately 10,49% is exposed to the extreme event of river flooding and an additional 13,68% is exposed to rainwater flooding.Public spaces are also highly exposed to flooding, with 15,56% of public spaces exposed to river flooding (the extreme event) and an additional 35,43% exposed to rainwater flooding. Critical infrastructure, such as schools and roads are also exposed to flooding; approximately 7,95% of the educational facilities are exposed to the extreme event, with an additional 24,09% exposed to the rain flood.A total of 10,166 people (3.69% of the population of Montería) are exposed to the extreme event. A total of 7,213 people are exposed to the projected flood for the 100-year return period. An additional population of 141,173 people is exposed to the rain flood. The highest percentage of exposure to fluvial flooding by stratum occurs in stratum 6 with approximately 27.65% of the stratum exposed to the extreme event and the greatest number of exposed inhabitants occurs in stratum 1 (4,530 people exposed to the extreme event) . Some 80,748 inhabitants of stratum 1 are exposed to the rain flood and 38,386 inhabitants of stratum 2 are also exposed to rain flood. This can lead to a high level of displaced people in stratum 1 (stratum 2, which has a total of 2,029 people exposed to the extreme event), which may increase the need for affordable housing in the future.During the field visit to Monteria, the GeoAdaptive team observed social housing and private housing in strata 1 and 2 that is located near the wetlands or is under development near or within the wetlands. Evidence of past floods could be observed by means of lines that are clearly drawn on the facades of these houses. Additionally, the team was able to observe critical infrastructure within the area demarcated by these flood lines on the facades of houses, for example, electrical boxes. This can impact the entire system and generate a greater exposure to the flood according to the location of these services on the same buildings. (A total of approximately 57,596 buildings were considered during the analysis, which are represented in the GIS data by building footprints (multiple sources).
