17085349333City of Louisville, KYUnited States of AmericaNorth America4. City-wide Emissions4.8Please indicate if your city-wide emissions have increased, decreased, or stayed the same since your last emissions inventory, and describe why.3Please explain and quantify changes in emissions1Please explainFrom 2010 to 2016, Louisville reduced its Core GHG emissions by 1.8 mtCO2e, or 10.1%. This reduction was largely due to 2010 being a high-energy demand year compared to 2016, as well as the transition to natural gas within LG&E's electricity generating fleet. Part of the decline was also attributed to the Metropolitan Sewer District having centralized several wastewater treatment plants, which reduced the energy used to treat wastewater. Other technological changes included improvements to vehicle engine emission controls/efficiency and fuel formulation, which reduced on-road transportation emissions by 4.7%

17087449333City of Louisville, KYUnited States of AmericaNorth America5. Emissions Reduction5.1Please describe how the target(s) reported above align with the global 1.5 - 2 °C pathway set out in the Paris agreement.0Louisville's GHG Emissions Reduction Plan establishes a blueprint to achieve an 80% reduction in its community-wide GHG emissions by 2050. This target was chosen in 2018 because it aligned with the Paris Agreement and the scientific consensus of what was required to avoid the most damaging effects of climate change at that time; however, since setting this target in 2018, more recent data have provided insight on the GHG reductions needed to keep global warming below 1.5°C to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change. To limit temperature rise in accordance with the Paris Agreement, GHG emissions must be halved by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2050 (IPCC, 2018). Louisville Metro supports this goal and will work with both internal and external partners to do all we can to reach these targets.
