Cities house half the world’s population but represent almost two-thirds of global energy demand and 70% of carbon emissions from the energy sector. Therefore, our cities have a vital role to play in the transition to a sustainable economy. This dataset provides information on the electricity, heat, steam and cooling consumed by local governments. The question in the 2017 CDP Questionnaire was as follows: "How much electricity, heat, steam, and cooling (refers to Scope 2 emissions) has your local government purchased for its own consumption during the reporting year?"

Scope 1 and 2 emissions from 482 of the largest 500 companies in the world by market capitalization. Also contains CDP response status. The dataset includes information on a company's sector, country and response status as well as the ticker symbol and ISIN number. CDP has created a 'clean & complete dataset' for the 2015 Carbon Action sample of companies - a group of the highest emitting public companies from the most energy-intensive industries. The full dataset covers Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from 2009-2014 and 10 Categories of Scope 3 emissions for the most recent accounting year (excluded from this public dataset). Production involved applying methods for the quality assessment of self-reported data and integration of CSR report data, as well as the development and application of models to estimate emissions for companies that do not report them.

This public dataset represents a subset of industries, companies and years of the full version. All users can interact with estimates and model details. The full dataset is freely available to CDP's investor signatories or can be purchased by others.
