CDP's water program motivates companies to disclose and reduce their environmental impacts by using the power of investors and customers. The data CDP collects help influential decision makers to reduce risk, capitalize on opportunities and drive action towards a more sustainable world. This dataset comes from question W1.4a asking companies to describe the detrimental impacts experienced by their organization related to water in the reporting year.

This dataset includes the urban risks to water supply as reported by cities in the 2018 CDP Cities questionnaire. Details of the risks alongside their magnitude of impact and timescale are included. For responses to other questions in 2018, please view the 2018 Full Cities dataset.

This dataset contains 2021 data on cities' water resources management strategies. The data was reported by cities through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System in 2021 in response to question 14.4a - "Please provide more information on your city’s public Water Resource Management strategy" - in the 2021 CDP Cities questionnaire. We currently cover the Global 500, S&P 500 and FTSE 100 indices as well as the largest companies in Australia, Japan and South Africa.

Water is also incorporated into CDP’s supply chain program. In this initiative, large multinational companies (our Supply Chain Members) issue CDP’s water questionnaire to a number of their suppliers. This exercise allows companies to investigate the water risk in their supply chain and gather vital information about water use outside their direct operations.

This year, we have invited approximately 2,300 companies to respond to CDP’s water questionnaire through our investor and supply chain initiatives. This data set excludes private responders.
