State and regional government climate data is fundamental to delivering the Paris Agreement. Using the data that states and regions disclosed to CDP, we estimate that those that disclosed both a region-wide GHG emissions reduction target and a GHG inventory, are on course to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement by 2020.
We incorporated the 2017 International Energy Agency scenarios to explore how collective emissions of states and regions change over time. This shows that disclosing states and regions are on average setting more ambitious targets than those set by their national counterparts. This demonstrates that present 2020 targets are sufficient to put states and regions on a trajectory for a 2 degree Celsius world. However, their long-term targets while more ambitious than their national counterparts, are not sufficient to keep the world below a 2 degree rise after 2020.

This dataset contains self-reported data on city-wide emissions disclosed by cities in 2023. Data is drawn from section 2.1 in the Cities 2023 questionnaire. Cities house half the world’s population but represent almost two-thirds of global energy demand and 70% of carbon emissions from the energy sector. Therefore, our cities have a vital role to play in the transition to a sustainable economy. This dataset provides information on the fuel consumed in a city. The question in the 2017 CDP Questionnaire was as follows: "Please give the total amount of fuel (refers to Scope 1 emissions) that your local government has consumed this year."

This dataset contains the complete data for 2021 on cities that reported emissions inventories using either a regional, country or city specific methodology or another methodology not listed in question 4.3 of the questionnaire. The data in the dataset is based on responses to question 4.6f in the 2021 Cities questionnaire, as reported by cities and local authorities through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System.

This dataset includes the detailed responses of publicly disclosing African cities in 2019. For a summary of the cities, please refer to the dataset titled "2019 African Cities Summary".

This data asset contains all public responses submitted by cities reporting to CDP-ICLEI Track in 2022.

The data is held in an Excel workbook. Clicking on the 'Download' button will cause this file to be downloaded to your machine. The Excel workbook was created through Microsoft Excel for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2301).
